Leanne Tobias is founder and principal of Malachite LLC, a new venture that promotes sustainable or green real estate investment. She brings over 18 years of institutional real estate investment and management experience to the sustainable real estate field. Leanne has spoken on green real estate for the United Nations, the U.S. Green Building Council, the Urban Land Institute and others, and is a principal author of ULI’s authoritative Green Office Building: A Practical Guide to Development. Green real estate projects for which Leanne has provided investment financing and management have been featured in a Home Box Office documentary on American television.
Leanne was previously Managing Director of the Multi-Employer Property Trust, a $3.2 billion commercial real estate equity fund, where she managed its Investment Committee, negotiated or participated in more than $1 billion in real estate acquisitions and sales, and managed over 6 million square feet of property, including sustainable projects, across the U.S. She headed the real estate operations of the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust, and directed programs for capital markets lenders, banks, pension funds and life insurance companies at the Mortgage Bankers Association. She also has consulted on real estate finance issues for the U.S. Treasury Department, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the City of New York.
Leanne holds an MBA from Wharton Business School and a Master’s of Public Affairs degree from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University.
